What To Expect

Our sessions
At your
initial consultation, your psychologist will conduct a thorough assessment
which involves gathering detailed information about your current concerns, and taking
a history about what has led to the difficulty you are experiencing. Your psychologist
will also take the time to get to know you, and work on building a strong
rapport so that you feel comfortable and supported. We will also discuss what
changes you are hoping to make, strategies you have employed in the past, and
any questions you may have.
It is quite
common for an assessment to be conducted over a number of sessions depending on
the complexity of the presenting issues. Your psychologist may have to ask you
a number of questions in order for them to gain a comprehensive understanding
of the nature of the issue as well as the context in which it is occurring.
Once the
assessment phase is completed, subsequent sessions will aim to work on the
identified concerns in a manner that is tailored to meet your individual needs
and goals. Often, your psychologist may give you tasks or actions to complete
and practise, so as to build on the work being conducted during the sessions.
You will be able to discuss any concerns and challenges as they present
themselves, as well as your progress and realisation of your goals.
How many sessions will I need?
The number
of sessions will vary for everyone, with some people feeling
they have gained what
they require after only a couple of sessions, whilst others will benefit from
more involved longer-term therapy. The average number of sessions can be
anywhere from between 6-12, and some may feel they would like some follow up
sessions in the future.
